Lupus Ventures

A Note From our Managing Director

News Update

For decades, lupus has stood as one of the most persistent and complex challenges in modern medicine – defined by its heterogeneity, elusive biology, and the profound variability of patient experience. These hurdles have long discouraged traditional R&D and venture capital, leaving a critical innovation gap in an area where millions of people living with lupus worldwide urgently deserve better.

Today, however, the landscape is shifting. Scientific understanding is accelerating, regulatory momentum is building, and a rapidly expanding clinical pipeline is redefining what is possible in autoimmune disease. This inflection point is precisely where Lupus Ventures was born.

As Managing Director of Lupus Ventures, I am honored to lead an investment fund uniquely positioned at the convergence of scientific progress, disciplined venture investing, and deep mission alignment. Backed by the unparalleled infrastructure of the Lupus Research Alliance – the world’s largest private funder of lupus research – we are purpose-built to catalyze breakthroughs that might otherwise remain unfunded. Our focus on “return on mission” allows us to invest earlier, take on meaningful scientific risk, and support not only therapies, but also diagnostics and enabling technologies essential to transforming care. With hundreds of therapies currently in clinical development and unprecedented industry interest in immunology, we believe the moment to accelerate progress in lupus has truly arrived.

Looking ahead, our ambition is clear: to help reshape how cures are discovered, developed, and delivered for a community that has waited far too long. By supporting promising programs through the critical funding gap between academic discovery and commercial investment, we aim to elevate the standard of care and expand the future of what treatment and diagnosis can look like for people living with lupus. Real success will be measured not only in milestones achieved, but in the lives changed and the scientific frontiers advanced.

It is a privilege to partner with innovators across the ecosystem as we work toward that future.
